[Aurora-sparc-user] Using an Ultra 5 as an NFS server - bad performance?

All:

I just recently converted my Ultra 5 into my NFS server. Sometimes I
see errors from NFS clients about the server not responding (the server
being my Ultra 5)...

One thing I note that seems to run terribly is pulling Firefox off an
NFS mount and the users home dir being on the same NFS mount...
Sometimes Firefox can take over 60 secs to start (sometimes longer)...
Additionally, if I run Firefox from a local drive using a local user -
its starts up in 5 sec or less... If I run Firefox from a local drive
for a user who's home directory is NFS mounted - again it takes a
similarly bad amount of time for Firefox to start up...

I've seen talk about the U5's IDE controller being terrible so I am
wondering if maybe I /*should not*/ use it as an NFS server.

When I was using my PIII 550 Mhz as the NFS server I didn't encounter
any of these performance issues... I don't want to "falsely" accuse my
U5 - but my experience shows me it must be the U5...

Thanks,

Scot
