[Aurora-sparc-user] Confirm: aurora 2.0 running on a 128MB Ultra-5

the poor thing is a bit overloaded with only 128mb memory, but, after the
poor performance with Solaris 10, I decided to see what other flavors were
out there for the SPARC.. I can confirm, Aurora
Version 2.0, installed from the DVD, is running perfectly! But, still a bit
sluggish.

Has anyone used a USB board on the Ultra-5? I'm looking at a concept of
ganging 8 external
drives off USB to ATA adaptors. So-far, working just fine under MEPIS and
Knoppix,
but wondering if a 3rd party USB 2.0 multi-port board will work if plugged
into the PCI
Buss?

My Ultra came via a Ham Radio flea market, no drive, and I had to wait a few
weeks for the mouse
to arrive from the previous owner. I plugged in a Western Digital 80GB
ata-100 drive,
replacedd the LG CD-ROM drive with a Memorex DVD +/- ual-Layer R/RW CD-R/RW
drive,
and fired off the 2.0 DVD burned from a identical DVD burner USB-Fed from my
Laptop running XP-Home.

I also have a Penguin plugged into the Ultra, but no ideas how to use it.
(several failed attempts to download software from SUN, I'm unable to test
it.)

I also have a pair of Ultra-60's as of yet, Untested.. both appear to have
dual CPU's. unknown how much memory (yet.. never plugged them in.) is there
a way to trick it
into using a PCI IDE-133 interface board to connect IDE drives instead of
the SCSI? finding SCSI-III's hard to locate.. (if not ultra fragile &
expensive.)

notes, and tips appreciated..

Stephen Griswold
