[Aurora-sparc-user] Off-Topic: Disk Crash

Hello all,

First of all, many apologies on sending an off-topic question, so please
reply to me directly (hector at acorporativa dot com dot mx) to not generate
more off-topic traffic on the list. I’ve been an aurora user since 0.3.

I had an Aurora (1.92 system) and lost a disk, I’m guessing due to a
mechanical failure, the backup I had I erased it a day before because I was
migrating the server to a new machine (also Aurora 1.92) and was planning on
doing a backup the next day just before the migration, the backup was going
to be done on the final system wich was already up, running and configured (
I know, many flames to me on doing such a ST*PID thing), but the server was
running for over 300 days so I guessed nothing will happen. Next day there
was a power failure, it burned my ups, power surge protectors and the disk,
luckly it didn’t burn the machine. The problem now is recovering the
information.

I’ve tried mounting the disk on the new system, with no luck, tried a couple
of sw solutions with no luck, so now I’m turning to you guys to se if
someone has ever used a data recovery service, I’ve found many on the web
but would like some input on any of the services if they have ever been
used. The disk was formatted on a single partition with ext3 and it used to
hold email (cyrus format) and webpages. I’m mainly interested on the emails
since I had a lot of stuff there.

Thanks again, and sorry again for the off-topic question

Hector Mendoza
