[Aurora-sparc-devel] Problems with Aurora 2.0 beta 2: segv in ping,
start_udev/udevstart

I have installed beta 2 several times on a sparc Ultra 10 in the last few days.
After completing install, and after a few hours of otherwise trouble-free
operation, ping and su segfault. Once trouble started I rebooted. On reboot,
the first problem is seen in /sbin/start_udev, when udevstart segfaults.
System eventually hangs hard before getting prefdm started. Booting single
results in a shell.
A strace of udevstart in single user shell results in
syscall: unknown syscall trap 0a800004 75741414
Strace of ping results in segfault in mprotect(0x701e2000....
This address is in /lib/tls/libc-2.3.3.so
Booting from a cdrom, using the shell in F2, and then setting LD_LIBRARY_PATH to
/mnt/sysimage/lib causes CDrom bins to fail in the same way. It seems perhaps
the /lib directory is corrupted...
I tried moving /mnt/sysimage/lib to /mnt/sysimage/lib.x and copying in the
/mnt/runtime/lib. This allows cdrom bins to work with LD_LIBRARY_PATH set to
/mnt/sysimage/lib. However, a chroot to /mnt/sysimage then still has the same
problem. It seems that perhaps something else is broken.
Whatever it is, its in userspace because it can be changed by replacing /lib or
chrooting, and it affects the kernel operation because syscalls like mprotect
aren't completing.
Its just a guess but maybe something is broken with SELinux.... Googling
suggested that maybe select and mprotect are borken in Aurora. Does anyone have
any more information about this?
I also notice that SELinux is turned off in Anaconda. (I didn't run FC3 on
i386, but its on in FC4) Is there an aurora-specific reason for this?
Thanks much!
